I am humbled and blessed to be able to do what I am passionate about! I have been working with dogs and their people for over 14 years, and during that time I have played many roles. Dog trainer, mom, wife, friend, group class instructor, apprentice. I have used my skills as a dog trainer through my own business, working at boarding and daycare facilities, the Humane Society, and a veterinary clinic. I was blessed to have a mentor that is a Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorist who took me under his wing and helped me to soar to the next level of dog behavior. And then.....
My whole life I have dealt with hip pain due to a growth defect and sometimes was disabled by it for short periods of time, but it never completely stopped me before, until it finally caught up with me in 2015. I found myself in excruciating pain on a daily basis, using a walker and close to being in a wheel chair at the age of 43 years old. I physically could not work with dogs safely anymore. I realized I had to give it up and adapt to my new reality, which was depressing and life changing.
I saw multiple doctors throughout my life that just threw their hands up and decided they couldn't help me, I was "too young" to have hip replacement surgery, but finally I found the right doctor that decided I was "too young" to be in a wheel chair, and it changed my life. At that point I was working a government desk job, and it paid the bills, but it was not fulfilling. I had put the idea of working with dogs far behind me because I had convinced myself that I was too fragile. It had been so long since I was able to walk without pain or a limp, that as exhilarating as it was to feel better, I did not want to mess it up, and eventually I will need the other hip replaced as well, so I thought I just needed to play it safe...
Fast forward to January 2019 -- Moved to Tacoma, WA. Decided before I moved, that I would never settle, or take for granted the ability to walk, and it was time to really make choices that would make me happy, time to see what I was really made of... And then the Corona Virus happened... Is still happening... But through all of the stumbling blocks, the universe found me and put me right where I needed to be!
As I was looking for a full time job that would allow a comfortable life, I decided to put in for a part-time position at Positive Approach Dog Training and Daycare Facility. I can do this again as a side gig for fun really, I thought. I got the position, and found family within the owners of Positive Approach that welcomed me with open arms. Through this relationship and working with clients again, I started to get my dog behavior mojo back and remembered that not only do I LOVE working with clients and their dogs, but I am damn good at it. I had pushed the possibility of working with dogs so far back in my mind, that I forgot that this is what I am supposed to be doing with my life! The Universe knew this, and laid out the path to get me here. Long story short, with Positive Approach's blessing and partnership I stepped out on my own and started The Balanced Pack on 11/16/20. I am right where I need to be, and it feels so good!
Thank you Universe, my mom, my kids (my son created the logo), friends, & Positive Approach for believing in me and reminding me what I am capable of.
KEEP MOVING FORWARD, AND NEVER SETTLE!!!
